U8-U12 Boys' Development Squads

Boys Development Squads are more commonly know as 'FTS Teams' since they are coached by the FTS Academy coaches.   Boys’ Development Squads provide an environment to maximise player development, ensuring refined techniques, creativity and game insights are transferred into matches (via competitive environment). The players are guided through the relevant age-specific elements of playing a dynamic possession based style of football.


  • Suitable for highly-skilled boys born 2012 to 2016 inclusive.
  • U8-U12 Kangaroos-level teams playing in community competitions.
  • Matches are played on Saturday mornings in Winter (April till Sept).
  • Match format for U8-U9 is 7v7 on a quarter-pitch. For U10-U12 it's 9v9 on a half-pitch.
  • Professional Academy Coaches
  • Additional Coaching Fees are payable
  • 3 Training sessions per week
  • Venue for Home matches is in Carnegie.
  • Venue for Training sessions during terms 2 & 3 is in East Bentleigh.

U9-U12 Boys' Graded Teams

U9-U12 Boys' Graded Teams

Graded teams offer boys the opportunity to play with, and against, players of a similar skill level. Graded teams offer good skills development whilst maximising player satisfaction .

  • Suitable for aspiring boys who are dedicated and focused on the game and their own development.
  • 2 Training sessions per week.  
    The training nights will be determined after the teams are formed.
  • Volunteer Coaches. No additional coaching fees are payable.
  • Graded teams play in Community U9-U12 Kangaroos -level or Wallabies -level leagues. (Sometimes a 3rd Graded team might start in a Community Joeys-level league).
  • Matches are played on Saturday mornings in Winter (April till Sept).
  • Match format for U9 is 7v7 on a quarter-pitch.
  • Match format for U10-U12 is 9v9 on a half-pitch.
  • Venue for Training sessions and Home matches is Lord Reserve, Carnegie.
  • Away matches are mostly inner-bayside (Bentleigh, Brighton, Beaumaris, Hampton, Sandringham). Occasionally away matches might be bit further (Aspendale, Berwick, Casey, Chelsea, Langwarrin, Mornington, Mount Eliza)
 
Try-out Sessions
  • For U10 - U12 Graded Boys' teams are in November and December 2022. 
  • For U9 Graded Boys' teams are in March 2023.

Session times and venue details are sent to those who register an Expression of Interest to join.

U8-U12 Boys’ Ungraded Teams

Friendship-based teams for boys who are in it for the enjoyment of the game and the improved social outcomes/life skills that come from participating in organised team sport.

  • Ungraded teams play in FV U8-U12 Joeys-level community leagues.
  • Matches are played on Saturday mornings in Winter (April till Sept).
  • Match format for U8-U9 is 7v7 on a quarter-pitch. For U10-U12 it's 9v9 on a half-pitch.
  • Venue for Training sessions and Home matches is Lord Reserve, Carnegie.  
  • Away matches are mostly inner-bayside (Bentleigh, Brighton, Beaumaris, Hampton, Sandringham). Occasionally away matches might be bit further (Aspendale, Berwick, Casey, Chelsea, Langwarrin, Mornington, Mount Eliza)

  • 1 Training session per week
    Ungraded U8-U11 Boys teams train on Monday evenings.
  • Training sessions run from March till early-September
