U8-U12 Boys Community Teams

Glen Eira's U8-U12 Boys Community teams offer players born 2014 to 2019 inclusive, the opportunity to play with, and against, players of a similar skill-level as themselves in Season 2026.


Community teams offer good skills development whilst maximising player satisfaction.
  • Volunteer Coaches.
  • Matches are played on Saturday mornings from early April till early Sept.
  • Match format for U8-U9 is 7v7 on a quarter pitch.   For U10-U12 it is 9v9 on a half-pitch.
  • Venue for training sessions and home matches is Lord Reserve, Carnegie.
  • The training night/s depends on which particular team you are in.  Different teams train on different nights Mon to Thu.
  • Away matches are mostly inner-bayside. Eg. Bentleigh, Brighton, Beaumaris, Hampton, Sandringham. Occasionally, away matches might be bit further. Eg. Aspendale, Berwick, Casey, Chelsea, Langwarrin, Mornington, Mount Eliza.

Community Graded teams are suitable for aspiring boys who are dedicated and focused on the game and their own development.

  • Trials are held to allocate the spots in Community Graded teams based on players' skill levels.
    • For U10-U12 Boys Graded teams, trials are held in November of the previous year.  
    • For U8-U9 Boys Graded team/s, the try-outs are held in February/March.
    • In both cases, session details will be sent to new players who submit an EOI and all returning players automatically.
  • Community Graded teams mostly train twice-a-week during the Winter season. 


Community Social teams are friendship-based teams for boys who are in it for the enjoyment of the game and the improved social outcomes/life skills that come from participating in organised team sport.
  • Spots in Boys Social teams are allocated based on incumbent players and existing friendship groups.
  • Try-out sessions are held in February/March to determine the most suitable team for new players to join.
  • Community Social teams mostly train once-a-week during the winter season.

Age Cutoffs

  • Players born in 2014, play in the U12 Boys age group in Season 2026
  • Players born in 2015, play in the U11 Boys age group in Season 2026
  • Players born in 2016, play in the U10 Boys age group in Season 2026
  • Players born in 2017, play in the U9 Boys age group in Season 2026

    Joining

    • The EOI is for New Players Only.
    • Returning Players (Ie. those who played for a Glen Eira FC team in Season 2025) shouldn't submit an EOI. They are automatically invited to relevant try-out sessions.
      Exception: Returning players wanting to change age groups should submit an EOI saying which age group they want.

U8-U12 Boys Development Squads

Talented players born 2014 to 2018 are invited to attend U8-U12 Boys Development Squad trials for the 2026 Season.  

Boys' Development Squads are more commonly known as FTS teams.    


Boys' Development Squads cater for talented young players that have an ambition and willingness to learn and a commitment to work hard. It is suited to families that positively support and encourage their children and are willing to ride the ups and downs along the way.

  • Suitable for highly-skilled players born 2014 to 2018 inclusive
  • Boys Dev Squads play in an FV U8-U11 Kangaroos and 12A Boys Community league.
  • Matches are played on Saturday mornings in Winter (April till Sept).
  • Match format for U8-U9 is 7v7 on a quarter-pitch.  For U10-U12 it's 9v9 on a half-pitch.
  • 3 Training sessions per week with FTS Academy Coaches.
  • Additional Coaching Fees are payable.
  • Venue for Home matches is Lord Reserve, Carnegie.
  • Venue for Training sessions during terms 2 & 3 is in East Bentleigh
